Matthew Funnell -24 PhD student – Durham University

Matthew is studying for his PhD which is based on seismic data, his expertise in this area and experience of working on other expeditions makes him an extremely useful member of the team. He helps to build, deploy and recover OBS (Ocean Bottom Seismic) equipment. Matthew also is part of the multi-channel seismic reflection watch team and a trained Marine Mammal Observer.

Matthew’s PhD is on the structure of the subduction zone to the North of New Zealand and should be completed by the end of 2016.
